September 2020 GOALS!

I’ve noticed over the years that I’m always a better, more efficient person when I write my goals down.  When I see them in black and white, it feels like it’s not just in my head, but something I have to prove to myself that I can do. Sometimes I reach the goals, sometimes I don’t but the important thing is that I write them down and try my very best to achieve them.

Each month I am going to post my goals for that month on this blog starting today! Okay, let’s get to the goals!

GOALS

To plant oregano, parsley and cilantro in the pots that have dead plants in them #RIP

It’s been sooooo hot in Florida that every time I go outside my face feels like it’s going to melt off so I have had no desire to be outside at all. My sinuses can’t take extreme humidity so I pretty much hibernate during the summer months and come out of hiding in September (ish).

The plants that have been in these pots have seen better days even though they’ve been watered regularly by the loads of rain that we have had this summer plus them being watered by hand. This month I’m tearing whatever is left of the plants and planting oregano, parsley and cilantro. I’ve grown herbs before and they do very well, it’s just hard to keep with them in the summer so this will be a September project.

To get more Vitamin D via sun

So as I mentioned above, me and humidity do not get along, but I do enjoy sun on my face and not being so pale! My goal is to get out in the sun at least 2 times a week for at least a half an hour. Vitamin D supplements are great for people and especially women, but, there’s nothing like straight up Vitamin D from the sun. As September rolls through, it will start to cool down just a little where it’s bearable, not to mention, fresh air!  Summers in Florida are constant AC. There’s no break! There’s no let’s open the windows to air out the house. Nope, AC 24/7. I am soooo looking forward to opening the windows soon!

Get back to Yoga

Damnit! I LOVE Yoga! I used to go to classes once a week. Absolutely LOVED it. Then my instructor cut down on her classes and mine was one that got cut. I think that may be 4 years ago? Something like that but since then I’ve probably done 8 downward facing dogs and 10 warrior poses in those 4 years! Pathetic. My goal in September is to put time aside to get back on the Yoga train. I am such a routine person that I KNOW once I get on the routine, it will be something that I do all the time. It’s just getting off my ass and doing it!

And that’s all ! I’m starting small so they will be attainable. If I can’t do this, I might as well hang it up!

2019 Goals

Reflecting back on 2018

One of my quotes from 2017 was:

“I feel like 2017 was a learning process and this year (2018) will be where I put plans into actions”

One of the biggest plans I put into motion in 2018 was getting a new job. I won’t go into the details on why I left my old job but it was time for something else. I’ve been at my new job for 4 months now and it was the best decision I ever made!

Another plan I put into motion was carrying a notebook in my purse to write down ideas that came to my head. That notebook has really helped me through the year. Ideas that I thought were bad at the time didn’t seem so bad when I would read it back at a later date and vice versa.

I also dabbled in filming some YouTube videos to see if I like being on camera and the jury is still out on that one. If I do anymore videos in the future they will be different than I’ve done before and better quality.

I have a list of goals I had for 2018 below and here is how I did.

More writing – PASS – My Graves’ Disease book is still a work in progress but I wrote more this year for it and other ideas for books.

Less TV – FAIL – In fact I may have watched MORE TV in 2018 than 2017. Insert my Friends marathons. I know, I have problems!

More reading – FAIL – I planned to read more books but it didn’t really materialize.

Less game playing – PASS – I deleted Candy Crush and a few other games off of my phone and iPad.

More meditation – PASS – I’ve been waking up most mornings and doing deep breathing exercises and at night before bed also.

More exercise – PASS – I lost a few pounds from walking on my breaks at work but my weight fluctuates because of my stupid thyroid so I can lose it and gain it back pretty fast if I do not stick to it.

More taking care of myself – PASS – I am who I am!

Less worrying about things that I cannot control – PASS – I’m always going to worry about things I can’t control BUT I think I did better this year than previous years so I gave myself a PASS.

As for 2019, I’ve compiled a list below of goals for this year.

FINANCIALLY

1. Pay off our cars

2. Cut the cable

3. Save approximately 5% or more of our income for savings

PHYSICALLY

1. Muscle stretches before bed and when I wake up

2. Walk 1/2 mile to a mile a day

3. GET BACK TO DOING YOGA

MENTALLY

1. Write more – This is a given

2. Read more – I subscribed to Entrepreneur and Rachael Ray magazine again (I used to subscribe many moons ago) and I got a discount from my job. I subscribed to Entrepreneur for $2.00 for the year and Rachael Ray free for the year! Reading books and magazines on my phone or iPad has just kept me staring at a screen that I want to get away from. I’m definitely going old school with my magazines this year and maybe my books!

3. Less time scrolling through social media – I waste way too much time on this and have been for a while now.

NATURALLY

1. Make my own skin care products – Save money and less chemicals

2. Bake our own bread – Same reason

3. Continue to grow fresh vegetables and herbs – Right now my herbs are ready to be cut and dried out and the cabbage for St. Patrick’s Day are growing nicely!

Well, there you have it! New goals for a new year approaching us and a look back to last year.

I hope that everyone has a great new year!

Till next time…I’ll see ya soon!

Five December Goals

Five December Goals

Here are 5 goals that I want to reach for December.

1. Stick To My Christmas Budget

Okay, I don’t REALLY have an actual “budget” for Christmas gifts but I’m going to think outside the box for some of my gifts this year.  For example, gift bags filled with little items such as candy, chapstick, candles and special gifts that that particular person may use.

One of my favorite bags is the Littles Carry All by Thirty One.  You can fill it up with all kinds of goodies and the bag can be used for many things such as a tissue holder or an organizer for your remote controls to name a few.

2. Walk 2 Miles A Day

I found this cool app called Pacer.  You can keep track of your steps and you can do daily stretches and challenges with your friends.  I know that there are a lot of other apps out there that do the same thing but I like this one and I like that it has daily stretch videos.  If you want more features I think it’s $3.00 a month and you can have coaching and guidance to reach your goals.  My walking has been around a mile a day since I’ve started and KNOW I can do better.

3. Get Back To Yoga

I used to do yoga once a week with an instructor but she is no longer teaching yoga on Saturdays and hasn’t been for over a year.  I’ve done beach yoga a few times but honestly it is way too hot in Florida for me to do yoga on the beach.  I’m very sensitive to heat (mostly humidity) and sometimes feel like I cannot breathe if I’m accelerating myself too much in the heat.  When wintertime comes in Florida the weather is usually perfect for me but still prefer being inside while doing yoga.

So…..I’m going to get back to yoga and do it in the privacy of my own home.  We have decluttered our spare bedroom which has given me room to start back up!

4.  Continue To Declutter The House

We’ve been doing a good job with going through crap that we do not need or want anymore.  It’s been therapeutic to be honest.  In December, I want to declutter to the point where our tiny house looks bigger than a mansion!  Okay, maybe that’s a little far fetched, but we can sure as hell make it feel like it!

5. Pay Half Of Our Cabinet Bill Off

We spent $3200 (with shipping) for our new Malibu White Shaker Cabinets from Cabinets To Go and they will be delivered this Friday.  We still need to purchase the countertops but I would like to pay at least half of what we purchased the cabinets for to pay for our countertops.  Hubby and I will be demolishing and installing our new kitchen ourselves,  May the force be with us!

So there you have it.  My December goals.  I’m going to try everything in my power to achieve them all.  Follow me on Instagram for updates on our progress.

What are your December goals?

Till next time..I’ll see ya soon!

Beach in the heat….Not for me!

Beautiful New Smyrna Beach, Florida

Many of you who know me know that I cannot handle the heat.  That is one of the reasons why I moved AWAY from Florida back in 1999. When I moved back to Florida in 2005 with my husband who had never lived down here before, I knew what I was getting into. I KNOW that it’s hot in Florida, I KNOW that I hate the heat.  I KNOW these things, but moved anyway.  I also wanted to be closer to my mom and dad as I had missed them a lot while in NJ for 6 years.  They would come and visit me a few times and I would come down to see them, but it was not the same.  Also, at the time, housing in NJ was at it’s peak and Ron and I really wanted to own a home.  In order to do that we took some extreme chances and moved to Florida. We quit our jobs, said goodbye to our NJ family and friends and left!

As time has gone by (12 years to be exact), things have changed.  Ron and I have gotten older, I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in 2007, my mother passed away in 2012 from brain cancer, Ron recently lost his aunt and uncle within a year of each other and we’ve also lost some friends and other family along the way.  Although it’s been bumpy, I know many who have it much worse than us and am very grateful for the life I have!

I recently went back to practicing yoga after a 4+ month hiatus as my instructor had a pretty bad fall off her bike and had cancelled classes.  Thankfully she is better but is no longer teaching Saturday morning yoga which is a total bummer!  I missed yoga a lot and started going to yoga classes on the beach on Saturday mornings with friends. The first week we went it was extremely hot and the sun was blazing.  I jumped in the water about 4 times during practice because I felt like I was going to pass out. The second week…same thing.  The third week was cancelled and this last week was when the wake up call happened.  Ring, ring…Hi, it’s common sense calling…stop pushing yourself, IDIOT!

The scenario was….. I got home from yoga, had something to eat, drank a ton of water (like I always do) and decided to go food shopping.  I was feeling fine and then all of a sudden I started to get dizzy, nauseous and tired while I was shopping.  I was starting to feel like I did when we were in Vegas 3 years ago for our 10 year wedding anniversary when I almost face planted on the strip in 100 degree weather (or was that from the beer?  Just kidding, it was the heat this time! Honest!).  I seriously felt like I was going to die that day.  Why do I do this to myself?  I always tell myself the same shit “Ohhhh, I can handle the heat” OR “everyone else seems to be dealing with the heat just fine”…fuck that..next time we visit Vegas will be wintertime AND I will go back to hibernating for 4-5 months in Florida until the winter comes or when I can move to cooler climate one of these days.

When I got home from my near pass out, I put the groceries away and laid on the couch most of the day.  The dizzy spells continued on and off for about a week along with hot flashes and weakness.  Granted, it is August in Florida AND I’m on medication that specifically says  do not to be out in excessive heat but I thought, why not test myself and see if I die…right? Needless to say, I am done with blazing hot yoga until it gets cooler and in Florida that may not be until October or November.  In the meantime, I will do yoga at home in the air conditioning…..maybe….
